What does composite decking cost per square foot?
It turns on which board and how much substructure the site needs. A flat concrete roof takes a simple joist grid; a deck that has to be levelled over falls, or built up around a pool coping, carries more below the boards than above them. Send the area and a photo of the substrate and you’ll get a built-up figure covering joists, clips, boards and installation.
Co-extrusion or WPC — which should I take?
Co-extrusion, if the deck is near water or in full sun. The 0.5 mm polymer cap is what keeps liquid out of the core, so spills lift off and colour holds far longer. WPC is the honest value option for a covered terrace or balcony where splash and glare are less of an issue. Around a pool we’d push you to co-extrusion every time.
Does it get too hot underfoot?
Any dark deck in Kolkata sun will. The pale boards — Driftwood #005 and Silver Ash #019 on co-extrusion, Ash Grey #101 on WPC — run noticeably cooler, and the catalogue calls Driftwood the coolest of the range. If the deck gets unshaded afternoon sun and people will walk it barefoot, specify light.
Will it fade, warp or splinter?
It will not splinter or crack — there is no continuous timber grain for a split to run along. Some colour settling in the first season is normal on any composite; the UV stabilisers in the cap slow it to a fraction of an uncapped board. Neither product rots, and termites cannot eat either one.
Can it go over my existing terrace?
Usually yes. Boards sit on a WPC joist grid levelled over the existing concrete, so we rarely touch what is already there — and the gap under the deck lets water run to your existing drainage. We check falls and drainage at the site measure before committing to a build-up height.
How is it fixed down?
Concealed stainless clips over the joists. Nothing penetrates the face of the board, so the shield stays intact and you never see a screw head. Start clips anchor the perimeter boards, and side covers close the deck edges and step nosings.
What maintenance does it actually need?
No oiling, sealing or staining, ever. Wash down with soap and water, or pressure-clean if the deck has taken a monsoon’s worth of grime. That is the whole list.
